But a superb piece of airmanship from what I understand.
Flight 1549, with 146pax/8 crew is believed to have hit a flock of birds (geese?) on departure from La Guardia, heading for Charlotte. The impact caused a loss of propulsion, as the engines ingested the birds.
The crew seemed to be able to execute a turn & made a textbook ditching in the Hudson, possibly the first ever successful ditching of a commercial airliner, without the plane breaking up.
Passengers evacuated onto the wings & were picked up by ferries.
Appears all have at this stage succesfully evacuated.
Amazing.

A very lucky escape and some great work by the pilot there, and of course everyone else who helped respond to the situation. And amazingly and thankfully nobody killed
