Sorry but its none of their business. It's a noise issue that affects local people so is for local councils to decide. If individuals on Sheffield council want to get involved fine, but it's not the place of the council to have such a vote in my opinion

I am with Sheffield council on this. Not due to the Green issue they are claiming, but the fact that Peel are taking everyone for a ride and it needs to be stopped...
You may call me biased but when they were going for approval, a night penalty scheme was promised, as they knew they wouldnt get the go ahead otherwise, and now they want a U-Turn because things arent going the way they planned it! Think about it, asking for rates cuts aswell, they have added little to the local authorities or to businesses and their employment levels are lower than they claimed, add to that the fait of SZD and youve got alot of enemys which you do not need! I have been told of such from people involved in a certain council!
Also add to that the likelyhood of actualy gaining any thing significant from this, DHL, UPS, TNT and others all happy at EMA. Others are convinced that FedEx were interested though when i worked for them they were not as their main depot is in Stoke, close to MAN and EMA!

Ive not lived under a flight path so Im not going to comment on the noise, but from an economic point of view, the more cargo DSA can gain, the better for the region. After all LBA and HUY cant easily handle long haul cargo, so its DSA or go outside of the region (most of DSA's cargo is long haul)
The fact that DSA has almost no chance of attracting the likes of DHL and UPS in particular, who have heavily invested in EMA, means any night flights would be few and far between. Occasional noise is a far lesser issue than regular night after night noise
Peel certainly havent done themselves any favours with the rates cut claim but this is one application I do support. Its about trying to increase business to a profitable level (though cargo is only a VERY small part of doing that) rather than subsidising a current loss making operation, which is what the rate cut would have been.
