Front page news in the local paper today. RYR - again - have said that high charges & taxes are preventing them from establishing a base, which it claims it would like to do. If they were to get the right deal, flights to the likes of Paris, Frankfurt & Barcelona could be launched. Hmmm....are RYR desparate to set up in ABZ as it isn't the first time they have voiced their annoyance. BAA say taxes are a matter for the Govt (ie. the Air Passenger Duty) & that talks continue to be "positive". Hang on though - talks seem to have been ongoing for ages! And all we have are a DUB route that's down to 4w (& that has lost 50,000 pax on last year!!!) & an axed LPL route!

I couldnt see ABZ ever becoming an FR base. As GSM has showed, it can only support a limited programme of 'sunshine' routes, and with a B737-800, I can only see STN working domestically.
Overall I think an FR base at ABZ would be bad for the airport. Could well be bye-bye GSM and affect potential growth from airlines like Flybe

Could be make or break for RYR at ABZ, H. Either a deal is struck or we may not see RYR at Dyce come W09.
