Eastern have announced a major expansion of new routes from Teesside. The destinations are London City, Belfast BHD, Dublin, Southampton, Cardiff and Isle of Man. Most of the services are completely new, but the Cardiff service is provided by re-routing the CWL-NCL-ABZ flights from 10th February.

Odd decision given the shortage of aircraft at present. Must be plans to bring more in..?
Still, presumably heavily incentivised by the new owners of MME..

It looks like the London City service is stopping at the end of August, before the Heathrow route starts in September.

Press reports saying Loganair returning to Teeside with flights to many places in direct competition with Eastern - e.g. Aberdeen, Belfast, Jersey, Newquay, Dublin. Room for two operators?? Be interesting to see how this develops. Can't find any announcement from Mayor, airport or airlines yet.

.....and now Ryanair are to offer twice weekly to Alicante from June - a route that Eastern had planned to offer. Would they, could they, compete with Ryanair? Teeside really for growth through competition!

Belfast Eastern route from Teeside ends 11th January and Heathrow suspended as Covid casualty. Reports that Loganair will launch MME -Heathrow starting February. Original list of Eastern routes from MME very depleted now. Any hope some of that could come to Humberside?

Someone posted elsewhere of rumours of flights from Doncaster, however the same person has dubious credentials.
Can’t imagine there’s much appetite for HUY flights away from ABZ. They’ve been based at HUY for over 20 years and haven’t introduced any new routes in at least 18 years.
Believe the MME flights were subsidised by local government, wouldn’t be the case at HUY.

But at least the Airport still has a based airline. It all about Route potential if the numbers don't stack up then why throw money away. Lets have some positive spin in these strange times and stressful times

Lets have some positive spin in these strange times and stressful times Of course, having a based airline is positive. But realistically the type of routes Eastern have offered so far are not suited to the limited market at HUY. If they could get into LHR then that may be different. I would personally like to see the airport u-turn on their policy to not be interested in ‘low-cost’ airlines. I believe Ryanair are soon to pursue a significant period of expansion, that would be guaranteed footfall at the airport and cause a huge uptake in car parking, providing much needed revenue with little requirement to expand the current facilities. Unlikely perhaps, but the only conceivable way the airport can return to passenger growth currently.

Even a return of Eastern's "Weekends to Capture" for late Summer/Autumn would be something positive. Economists say there is likely to be a group of people with money to spend on travel as restrictions are eased. Sadly, many people will not be so fortunate its true but there will still be cash rich, time poor people looking to get away for a weekend(s). I think these weekends sold well before, am I correct? As for HUY not wanting a low cost on the scene I agree this should be revised. They can provide an engine for growth and business diversity. Airports of all sizes and type have had to learn to live with them and manage them without compromising other parts of their portfolios.

Only Aberdeen and Newquay left as Eastern routes from Teeside now. Both also Logan routes.
