If I was to say I’ll give it a year, is that too optimistic?

Air France only has a small base at Orly so limited connections, but there’s no competition on these routes so they might get some local traffic…
Think Vueling operated Cardiff to Orly recently, but it was probably still fairly quiet post-lockdown and they would have been using a much larger aircraft.
Although it’s bad timing with the current protests!

There are some press releases that could be interpreted to suggest this may be part of a larger franchise agreement between Eastern and Air France, which could open up other opportunities. However, Eastern can be quite fickle and change direction at the drop of a hat. Just hope this venture lasts longer than their Gibraltar experiment.

Perhaps it's called looking after the Finances. They keep going and offer a Service. Why run at a loss, would you? Perhaps support Eastern in what they are trying to achieve rather than castigate.

Perhaps it's called looking after the Finances. They keep going and offer a Service. Why run at a loss, would you? Perhaps support Eastern in what they are trying to achieve rather than castigate. Nobody is castigating anyone, I want a strong and sustainable local airport and strong and sustainable regional airline to be based here. My issue is with the sometimes seemingly directionless growth at Eastern over the last few years, seems to have lost its USP a bit. Used to be award winning! If this partnership with Air France provides a solid foundation for growth and enables Eastern to find its new niche then I am fully behind it, but in recent years decisions seem to have been made that even some of the staff might sometimes wince at. It’s not clear exactly what they are trying to achieve, and that is my point. So don’t take my post to be negative. I think Eastern have a real opportunity to enter the leisure market at Humberside should they want to, in fact with Doncaster gone and the lack of interest from the airlines to serve Humberside then it would be the perfect opportunity to put some E-jets to good use. But flights to a secondary Paris airport with little option to connect? We shall see.

The April traffic figures show that these new once-daily routes have made a rather slow start. EMA and SOU started on 14th April and CWL on 21st.
April passengers
Cardiff 134 (average 6.7 passengers) East Midlands 356 (average 10.5 passengers) Southampton 344 (average 10.1 passengers)

It looks like the EMA and SOU services are switching to CDG at the end of March, but the CWL is stopping due to lack of slots at CDG.

I don’t think any of the passenger figures to ORY were inspiring, but judging by the CWL ones I wonder whether lack of slots is really the reason it’s not been carried across.
