New flying club at Humberside. Sadly Frank Morgan, a club with significant history at the airport, having been there I believe since it was a caravan with a windsock, quietly closed a couple of weeks ago.
Its aircraft and relatively new clubhouse has been taken over by Teesside based outfit Aeroschool Flight Academy.
There are now just two flying clubs based on the site, when I started my tentative steps into aviation some 20 years ago there were I think four or five.
I stand to be corrected but I believe the man himself, Frank Morgan was a Lancaster pilot during WW2, and the name therefore provided a direct link to the airports past. People may recall that a few years ago the original club house was victim of the jetblast of an Embraer (I believe) and so they moved into temporary accommodation until the new clubhouse was built.
It may interest some to know on here that the a lot of successful commercial pilots started their journey at this club, and those links remained by way of the AME who also had regular surgeries at the airport with pilots from major airlines also using the facility.
Wish the new club well, but hope they’re not a flash in the pan like others of the past elsewhere.
