A lucky couple started their trip early as they were named the 100,000 passengers to fly Flybe from Doncaster.
Elaine and Jeff Coupe from Worksop were checking in at Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield to fly to visit their daughter in Belfast when staff presented them with a bottle of fizz to mark the occasion.
Mrs Coupe said: “We were thrilled to be the 100,000 passenger flying on this airline from Doncaster.
“What a lovely surprise.”
In the last three years, Flybe has offered affordable flights from the airport to Belfast in May 2008 added Jersey as a new route from the airport. Jodi Stow, Marketing and Communications Manager for Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, said: “This is a major milestone in conjunction with Flybe and we are really pleased to be able to mark it in this way.
Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, is the UK’s number one domestic airline following CAA April/May statistics which confirm it has achieved three major corporate milestones:
• The Flybe brand carried the largest number of passengers in the UK domestic marketplace by three clear percentage points
• Flybe, even without its franchise partner, Loganair, carried more domestic passengers in the UK than any other airline
Overall, the Flybe brand carried 26% of the total UK domestic passengers that flew during April, with its closest rival Easyjet landing behind with 23%.
In terms of total passenger numbers Flybe, not including franchise partner Loganair, still topped the table with 451,413 passengers, ahead of all competitors including easyJet, British Airways, the BMI Group and Ryanair.
