Tesco Roundabout improvements
Shame the work starts in July (peak months for the airport). October would have been better? Doesn't say how long the works will last for though...

My prayers have been answered! Paul Haynes has started to update and fully utilise the SEN Routesonline profile. Well done him!
Also as a footnote, any progress on these airline negotiations taking place before Christmas?

The Southend Standard free paper has today stated that the terminal extension opened this afternoon, no date for the official opening as yet.

If the extension is finished and ready they might as well make use of it, even if the official unveiling has not happened yet. I suspect that it will be a rather 'big' ceremony put on by Stobart. No doubt there will be media there, especially if the opening involves the announcement of new routes. Of course Stobart will want to show shareholders some good news too (especially if rumours of Carlisle's closure is true). And I think I'm right in saying that this is the final piece of the jigsaw for SEN and completes the airport's transformation?

I sent a message to the London Southend Airport Facebook page this morning, asking them if they had a official opening date for the terminal extension and would we get a announcement for any new routes on that date. this was their reply.............There is no date confirmed just yet for the official opening, we have just opened it operationally and in regards to new routes nothing is planned unfortunately......

That's most disappointing. I guess we can only wait and hope for further expansion later this year, or in 2015.......

Not only disappointing but also very surprising.
As some will know there is a project which has reached the final planning stage and the participants have not been advised that it has foundered, so I simply don't understand such a totally negative statement. In any event they have never previously been negative in that way so why now?

I don't believe anything regarding new routes on their Facebook page unless I can see it bookable on the airline's website first. Personally I think Stobart know exactly what they are doing in trying to 'get us off the scent'. They would never openly say something was going to happen. Its normally "We are always in talks with potential new carriers, but any route is a decision for the airline". I'm sure they will have a grand event planned for the terminal opening since it is highly significant in the development and history of the airport. I wonder how much the person who manages the FB page actually knows about new routes etc.(?)

As you say they normally are non-committal, unsurprisingly, so why so emphatically negative this time I wonder.

Yes expressflight i agree, this was not the normal answer people get on this airport facebook page, i oviously didnt expect then to announce or give any details of any prospective new routes but equally i didnt expect to get such a negative reply. With the terminal extension now up and running, its quite concerning that it could well happen now that, we will have fewer flights/routes in 2014 than we had last year. Im still hoping this wont happen and we will get a surprise or two either at the extension opening or later this year.

I'm hoping for a "surprise" rather earlier than that.

Oh you are a tease expressflight... I think that getting Flybe (albeit on a 3 weekly seasonal service to NQY currently) could be a good target for potential growth. I wonder if they are still trying to get Jet2 to open up a base here, as was reported a year or so back?

Sorry, I don't mean to be enigmatic but simply cannot say any more. The two operators you mention could be for the future but are nothing to do with the present possibilities.

Of course, I fully understand your position expressflight for any information you have to remain confidential. It's great to discuss rumours.
