A family whose son suffers from a peanut allergy has refused to fly KLM again, after suffering from a nightmare journey home from USA to Aberdeen.
The airline allegedly gave assurances that the flight from USA to AMS would be nut free, however they were refused boarding when the airline admitted it could give no guarantees that either their flight would be nut-free, nor that the plane had been cleared of nuts or extracts of nut from the previous sector flown. The family had to be put up in a hotel. When they eventually arrived in AMS, their connecting flight to ABZ went tech & they were further delayed!
Must have been tough for the family, but how can an airline guarantee a "nut-free" experience? I suppose these days it is feasible to have "nut-free" airline meals, but to guarantee that a previous flight flown by the plane would be clear of nuts to allow the family to fly must be quite difficult?
