Since the local Council gave BAA its blessing for the runway ext that BAA had much coveted at Dyce, there has been..................... silence. Was supposedly this year, now it's 2009, & other rumours suggest that BAA - or its parent Ferrovial - are too cash strapped to put the project at ABZ on its priority list! But also another rumours that April 2009 is when the main runway will be resurfaced & that's when the extension will take place. But even then it may not be the full 300m, but only 125-150m! The main terminal at least is being upgraded & refurbished, with more recently more check-in space with the offices that lay along the front of the inside of the terminal (I used to work in the Air UK one!!!) being done away with, also allowing the windows to bring in more light. By all accounts, it looks much better! Now if BAA can only look at another baggage carousel... Meanwhile, the idea of a new international stand (dubbed "stand 0" as it would have been to the south of stand 1) have it appears been ditched as a gas pipe was found under where they wanted to excavate, & there is no way around it! So if they want to expand to take account of international growth (& that's where currently growth is being experienced most) they will have to put some of the domestic stands into use for the international flights, something they are doing from time to time at the moment.
