In turn this could see the return of Thomson to HUY at some point in the future depending how things pan out I also think there is the chance in the future of some tie in with the new 787's as they would be perfect for long-haul from LBA.

Probably not, but these are the types of flights LBA have been after for years, and the 787 would provide the perfect solution to the runway issue there.

Thomson and First Choice are pleased to announce that in Summer 2013 they will be doubling capacity at Leeds Bradford Airport through the introduction of four brand new routes to Menorca, Ibiza, Rhodes, Tenerife and the addition of another weekly flight for existing Mallorca and Turkey routes. This follows the launch earlier this year of exclusive routes from Leeds Bradford to Sharm El Sheikh and Tunisia.

could the recent announcements of expansion at LBA be something to do with Thomas Cook? Could Thomson and Jet 2 increasing their presence as they know Thomas Cook aren't going to be operating from there next year or could they be trying to swing a Thomas Cook decision?

Thomas Cook still up in the air. It has been said that they are looking for a third party to operate the flights, so we may see Monarch operating on behalf of Thomas Cook instead, and hopefully offering some Cosmos holidays too. However it is still not clear as to whether the now full week Thomson program will be operated by Thomson Airways, or whether it will still be Monarch as originally planned.

It has been alluded to on Pprune that Thomas Cook are reviewing their future fleet requirements, and that some of their fleet could be transfered over to Monarch. It would go together with posts on there from people suggesting that the Monarch is to grow.
If this is the case, then I wonder if Thomas Cook will be using Monarch for its flights more in the future.
