Interesting that he mentions Crete as a new route. It has been operating by Olympic for the last 11 years at least because I have been on it most of those years - or does he mean a new operator is coming in on the Crete service? Some of it sounds like a snow job for people who havn't a clue about what has happened at the airport over the last 30 years or so regarding charter flights.

There are some discrepancies in the article, including the mention of Crete as a new route. However I think the point comes across quite well, that being the difficulties airports like HUY are having in establishing meaningful leisure routes at this time.
He's clearly not giving anything away, but seems quite confident that they will be able to announce something soon.. Hopefully it will be a more substantial 'something' than the odd route here and there, but anything positive cannot be sniffed at at the moment, so hopefully something will come of it.

Agreed. Hopefully there will be something positive announced soon. It is difficult to understand professional tour operators being unsure of demand at Humberside though, when you consider only about 5 years ago there were 8 flights a week to Majorca, and not much less to Turkey. If that does not demonstrate demand I don't where one would go to demonstrate it.

Re. conflict of interest. With most airports (and airlines) struggling and new routes being so hard to find it is very unlikely there will be a risk of doubling up on (one of the few) existing route - particularly ABZ. More a worry would be if Eastern got greedy and wanted to muscle in on the AMS business! But I don't think they would be that stupid.
Also, I wonder how much influence at the table N. Lincs Council has? They are obviously very interested in the 'Big Picture' and how a viable local airport fits into their regional plans. I would guess they hold little sway but can they explore/offer initiatives that would help with both their plans and Eastern? Are they a conduit to grants/funding?

Re:-N Lincs Council's influence.I would imagine they hold quite a few trump cards in their hand especially when it comes to expansion plans and planning permissions.Let's hope they exercise these rights sensibly.

Pure rumour starting and speculation... and unlikely but, how about JetXtra - or re-incarnated version, operating one based aircraft on Eastern's operating license (and crew), with seats sold to a mixture of scheduled seat only, HAT, TCX, Olympic, and anybody else that might be interested?
I would hope the something positive is TCX putting Palma and Dalaman back on sale - that would be a start

How is it a case of 'beggars cant be choosers'? Chances are the airport would be better off without this outfit judging by their track record. Think about it.

Basically Mr Litten seems to be saying he will take anything that's going in these difficult times. My gut feeling is that the renewable energy card is a long shot - particularly as the Government seems to keep changing it's stance on wind farm licences.
Having been in a 'business development' job I know how soul-destroying and pressured it can be. So I don't envy his task. I wonder whether having a new boss will help him or add more pressure? I wonder what 'targets' he might have to meet?

I suspect Eastern will be in the process of reviewing the entire operation.

MAG Accounts now online for 2011-12. Some key points:
Finances Aviation income per passenger £13, up from £11.30 Commercial income per passenger exc property £9.30, up from £9 Operating costs per passenger £24, down from £24.30 Revenue flat at £6.6 million Expenses were £6.6 million, down Total capital expenditure was £1.4 million
This bit I don't quite understand so I'll just quote it:
The net of tax result for 2011-12 was £200,000, so I'd guess that is the proceeds figure. The costs in legal fees, advisors etc must have been £400,000, and I guess the £900,000 is what MAG put into the pension scheme
During the year HUY got £400,000 from North Lincolnshire Council as a rate rebate for 2005-10
Other Investment in hold baggage x-ray screening Eastern's bid was made in February Employees rose from 149 to 155
Comment - a rather encouraging set of figures on an operating/'day to day' basis. I couldn't find an exact operating profit/loss figure but operating costs were reduced and yields increased. Financially the airport has been managed well. I do wonder though if costs may increase now as HUY no longer benefits from 'centralised services' at MAN

Would not such "centralised services" be taken over by staff doing similar areas of work at Eastern, thus making costs for both companies more efficient?
