Some good news for Exeter (though with BE at the moment, have to wonder if anything is being cut to free up capacity for this)

Simon Lilley, Flybe’s Director of Marketing comments: “With this quite significant expansion of summer sun options we are delighted to now offer South West travellers the opportunity to travel to Barcelona from Exeter for the first time ever. We fully expect both this brand new destination and our new route to Nice on the magnificent French Riviera to prove hugely popular. In further committing to ‘Making flying better’ for our passengers, we have also actioned the obvious demand for more flights to four of our most popular existing sun routes by adding to them another four return flights every week in total.”
On hand to help Flybe celebrate the launch of the new Barcelona route, Don Spourgan, Proprietor of El Bocado Tapas Bar and Restaurant in Exeter presented airport and airline staff with a metre-wide freshly cooked paella. Mr Spourgan said: “I’m delighted that Flybe will be flying to Barcelona from Exeter. Each year, I send my chefs to Barcelona for inspiration and to ensure our food is as authentic as we can make it and this new route will mean they no longer have to drive all the way to Bristol but have a flight on their doorstep.”
Matt Roach, Exeter Airport’s Managing Director said: “We are delighted with the announcement and hope that this headline-grabbing route will really whet the appetite of travellers in the South West. Barcelona has been a frequently requested route for some time and the new Flybe flights for next summer again underline the strength of the partnership between Exeter International Airport and Flybe.”
Adds Mr Lilley: “With passengers able to enjoy the comfortable seating offered by our 118-seat Embraer 195 jet aircraft, this announcement further reinforces Flybe’s commitment to bringing convenient, affordable travel to the South West and reaffirms our position as Exeter’s number one airline. Flights are available for booking now and we’d urge travellers to book early so they don’t miss out on the lowest possible fares.”
