Although only small, this does add a new airline to HUY. The potential for new services may have increased slightly.
With them doing the same from DSA it does hold some weight that HUY can still have its own services.

Although it's only a start, if the service does well, we could in theory, see BE expanding at HUY. I would hope for Southampton and Paris, but either of these may be a long time off. It is good to see that they understand that HUY can hold it's own in the shadow of DSA. HUY should go all out to attract the DSA BHD service, it is time HUY started playing hardball!

I agree, they've been far too long sitting on the fence letting EMA take the glory. HUY is in a position geographicaly to:-
a) Offer a base for an operatr (i.e. LS) who have a base at an airfield local to DSA but wish to expand.
b) Help corner any growth at DSA by getting there first.
Though DSA may be bigger catchment wise, it has far too much competition from EMA LBA and MAN... HUY is far enough away and, if the catchment can go some way in supporting its own routes, it could rely on the smaller numbers coming from other areas.
It could happen in theory.

Flybe press release - www.flybe.com/news/0812/2976.htm Also got a mention the travel mole website but nothing on the airport site, or the local press yet Times/operating dates on the other thread posted just after this one - airhumberside.proboards80.com/index.cgi?board=scheduled&action=display&thread=323However I cant get that excited over this. It's a glorifed charter flight. It replaces the existing VLM charter with a larger aircraft and Flybe selling the extra seats. It's quite clear that BE are most focused at DSA with the expansion in frequency of DSA-JER and I suspect that it is pure tour operator preference for HUY that has lead to this new service. If Flybe have won the charter contract, but the tour operator dont want the extra seats in a Q400 compared to a Fokker 50 they might as well make it scheduled and sell the extra seats themselves Hope Im wrong but I would be very surprised if Flybe expand beyond this weekly flight anytime soon
