Thus far Peel have rebuffed all offers of public financial support suggesting that it’s just delaying the inevitable. However, perhaps their hand may be forced with this. Business is already leaving the site for elsewhere, staff members from various business are also going elsewhere. I know of a couple who have joined my employer recently. What is needed is a definitive answer on the future, otherwise how will you recruit and retain the staff needed and also the business required to keep the place afloat?

Draw down of aviation operations from 31st October according to the press release. So presumably passenger ops will be the first to be affected. Very sad, I know I was always against the building of the airport, but i had believed it was here to stay now and fully wanted it to be used to its maximum potential. Sadly apparently not to be. Hopefully those aviation jobs can be retained within the region.

Tui’s contingency plan has nothing additional for HUY. Extra Antalya, Dalaman and Dubrovnik flights going to LBA. Also more for EMA.
Pity really HUY couldn’t have picked something up

Pity really HUY couldn’t have picked something up Early days on that front, and it’s not entirely clear as to whether HUY owners currently want to see increase in passenger business. But TUI already operate from Humberside so it’s not beyond realms of possibility that they may in future expand their offering given as I’ve said elsewhere and Humberside is once again the closest airport to between 1.5 and 2 million people.

The new routes announced for LBA and EMA only amount to 11 departures per week. There is probably also a less obvious increase in capacity at MAN. It looks as though there is still much DSA capacity to be replaced, but TUI might use the Doncaster situation to trim capacity if it was felt necessary due to the developing economic situation.

I’d say the economic situation developing in the UK and the weak pound will be a big concern for tour operators. There’s also the changes coming into effect next year in the EU - the entry exit system is supposed to be starting in May (biometric requirements for non-EU travellers) and ETIAS (7 euros fee per pax) next November. They may mean eventually UK passports won’t need to be stamped, but in the short-term it’s more hassle for travellers. TUI will probably be waiting to see how things develop over the coming weeks.

I suspect they will be cautious given that were likely to see a recession, and cost of living crisis, for all the reasons Im sure we know all about. I don't work in the industry, but given I have seen quite a few adverts pushing Summer 23 already - usually we don't really see that until January, and for that reason alone - I wouldn't be surprised if forward bookings were down on pre-covid times, and certainly from S22 given some of those booked for S22 would have been deferred bookings from 2020/2021.

Looks like Wizz Air’s flights to Eastern Europe are switching to LBA from November.

DSA mole on PPrune now saying all GA activity to stop this Friday after 1500 local. Other business on site (3 flying schools, 2Excel, NPAS) to be gone by 18th November.
Not sure how true that is, but increasingly sad if so, and puts some companies in a very tricky situation!
