(Aldershot) An airport in the UK is charging travellers more than £500 to park, according to a comprehensive survey of airport car parks by airport-parking-shop.co.uk.
London City airport tops the list of UK airports surveyed by the airport parking comparison website, charging £540 for a two week say in their long stay car park. A day's short stay parking at the airport costs £41, second only to Heathrow, which charges £45.20, and up to £315 for two weeks long stay.
Airport-parking-shop.co.uk compiled two lists of gate prices (non-prebooked parking) for the UK's top 22 airports - charges in short stay car parks for a 24 hour period, and charges for a two week period in the long stay car park (calculated as 15 days, as per industry standard). For long stay, Luton and Southampton airports take joint third place, charging £142.50, followed by London Gatwick at £135 for a two week stay.
Belfast International and Luton take take third and fourth place in the most expensive short stay ranks, charging £30 and £31 respectively for a day's parking, with Leeds Bradford, Liverpool and Manchester in joint fifth place at £27 for a 24 hour period (Leeds Bradford charge includes security fast track, though they have an option without this extra at £25).
The cheapest long stay car park for 15 days is Humberside at £80.50, followed by Teeside and Prestwick airports at £82 and £85 respectively.
However, drivers can get two weeks long stay parking for as little as £30 by comparing prices and booking online. The survey found like for like parking £246 cheaper at airport-parking-shop.co.uk for London City, and £245.05 (78%) cheaper for London Heathrow.
On average drivers can save £67.87 (48%) by booking online compared with gate prices on arrival at the airport.
All of the 22 UK airports surveyed charged more for parking on the gate than prebooked parking from online providers.
