I see that from Ensign Buses Twitter, on Boxing Day they will be offering buses from outside the airport. I suppose for the airport to let them in to the benefit of all Boxing Day travellers (when no train service) would set too much of a precedent.
Can't post the link for some reason.

Just announced, the Ensign Bus service to & from Victoria and Canning Town is back on as of Saturday 5th October. This time we know its for real because Glyn Jones is on record as calling it "exciting" There are some real positives such as different arrival/departure points compared with the train service. Its seven days/week so Saturday night/sunday morning is covered. It also helps fill the 55 minute gap between the last two train departures of the evening.

A new NOTAM has been published listing three new stands on the North Apron. They are 16, 17, 18 and are located opposite 12, 13 and 14 respectively. Marshalling required.
But another NOTAM specifies Stand 18 as u/s due to ground equipment until December 31.

I assume Stand 18 will be the location of the cargo handling equipment for the two ASL B734Fs, with the ULDs travelling between the SENA building (Inflite hangar) and the aircraft.

There has been a deafening silence about the terminal extension, for which planning permission was granted a year ago. No announcements, and seemingly no rumours either. Does the September 25 trading statement offer a clue ?
From October 2019, WizzAir will start flying from London Southend Airport, to three new destinations. These new routes will help support the continued growth in passenger numbers at London Southend Airport in line with the Group's target of reaching 5 million passengers per annum by February 2023. Given the ongoing uncertainty in the sector, in part caused by Brexit, the Group is taking a cautious approach to passenger forecasts in the short term, with the Board working on the basis of circa 2.3 million passengers for the year ending 29 February 2020. This would represent an increase of 53% versus the previous year.
One would have thought this was an opportunity to announce the commencement of work on the terminal if any was planned for the coming winter. .

Meaningful work on the southern end (the baggage area extension) due to start very soon I understand. You will probably have seen some preparatory works already.

The northern end was receiving a lot of attention this morning. Equipment being unloaded from trucks, holes being dug, a real hive of activity!

Those are two very welcome posts about the start of works on the terminal extension. I have deleted parts of my preceding post as it was clearly overtaken by events almost immediately ! I am only an occasional visitor to Southend nowadays. The last time I saw the terminal was a month ago when there appeared to be no change. It is always good to hear of progress from people on the spot.

Re my post yesterday - I went over again this morning to look at the north end and there is no sign of anything or anyone unusual. Don't know what was happening yesterday; perhaps it was enabling works or maybe nothing to do with the extension at all. I have no idea but it was busy!
What I can confirm, however, is that work is starting at the southern end. The walkway from the approach road is shut off (same as it was when the last works took place) and you have to carry on walking along the approach and turn left for the terminal opposite the station entrance. One of the approach lanes is coned off as well so something really is happening here. I'll keep my eye on it.

I walked down the airport approach road last week and as senobserver stated above, there is indeed a lot of work going on at the southern end but what surprised me was seeing a sign there that stated completion of works would be September 2020. That seems a long time so must be a lot going on with the expansion, i wonder if that will include the north end and work will also commence there soon.

To ensure the customer experience keeps pace with expected passenger growth, improvements will continue to be made to the airport. The investment will help the airport meet its passenger target by enhancing the attractiveness of the airport to airlines and increasing the terminal capacity for customers. The investment will also support the EBITDA per passenger target by allowing the Group to capitalise on the revenue opportunities increased capacity brings. For example, the Group plans to invest in new car parking, and the building of a new hotel. The current hotel is reporting 93% occupancy, higher than other similar hotels at other London Airports.
Other plans include optimising the space within the departures terminal and moving arrivals to a new purpose-built facility. This means London Southend Airport can combine enhanced passenger flow through check-in and security with an even greater retail offering. This work is expected to be completed over the next three years, with the pace of capital expenditure decisions made in reference to the macro-economic environment. In the immediate term, Stobart Group intends to introduce automated check-in facilities and the latest security clearance technology for passenger baggage. This will help maintain the Airport's reputation for being 'quick and easy' and ensure the terminal capacity keeps pace with the short-term increase in passenger numbers.
From the Stobart Interim Results published yesterday .It may help explain recent goings on. It suggests there may have been a rethink with ongoing capital expenditure a likely issue.

I don't quite see how a separate arrivals and departure terminal so far apart is going to operate. Check in at the departures terminal and your aircraft is parked in front of the arrivals terminal so you have to be bussed to it? Or all aircraft park at the departures terminal (the artist's impression shows aircraft parked in front of both) and all the pax are bussed from there to the aircraft?
The main stumbling block to these ambitious plans must be the annual total movement cap of 53,300. I will be very difficult to get that increased I think.
