Some h4u cutcbacks sadly on DLM Thu flights now start early June rather than 19th May This change has now been reversed Fri flights now only operate 29th July, then 26th Aug-30th Sept, rather than 22nd July-end of Oct. So about 2 months lost, including peak summer when h4u added a short notice 2nd weekly flight last summer The h4u flight schedule now shows the Friday service a sbeing 22nd July-30th Sept, but the booking engine is only showing availability for the dates in the quote

So does this mean that they have scheduled more flights than origionally planned? If so then great news.

Thursdays are back to what was originally planned (just 2 flights reinstated)
If the August Friday flights are restored it will still be less than the original plan, as the Friday October flights have gone. But still more than last year

So as things stand has the loss of the last few years now levelled out somewhat? Obviously the Ryanair flights will mean an increase in April (a big one due to the ash cloud last year), but after July there are no Cyprus flights and the HER flights have lost a weekly rotation.
Eastern and KLM seem to have picked up again though, hopefully that will help to balance things out.

Effectively Cyprus+Greece have been reduced from 4 weekly flights to 1 - LCA for just over 2 months and HER for 3.5 months
This has been mitigated by h4u's Bodrum and the extra special departure flights, and possibly a month extra Friday DLM. So about the equivalent of 1 extra charter flight for a full Summer Season
So probably a net loss of around 2 charter flights a week averaged out over the whole Summer. Which is of course the same frequency as FR to ALC. But then the loss of Malaga, and the KLM frequency reduction need to be considered, and partially compensated by possible higher load factors to ABZ/AMS
Overall for the summer I would guess a small decline, but expect the figures to vary month by month. Which would be an improvement on the past few years
There are a lot of positives/gains and a lot of negatives/losses at the moment

I have just been informed by a reliable source that tomorrow's Palma flight (1st of the season) will have the full capacity onboard.
It is a real shame that Thomson's have dropped this flight for Summer 2012 as loads like this 1st week in the season prove that there is demand in this area for flights like this...

Same story with TCX's winter operation, same story with Flybe and Malaga last summer. Filling the planes is not the problem

So if full flights are not the problem, is it yields or logistics or something else? Is the solution to sell the airport to a LoCo airline like Ryanair for a nominal sum ?

Its highly likely logistics and scope for a base that is the problem. Ryanair could fly the spanish routes from bases over there with relative ease compared to tcx basing equipment here. We have heard about jet2 for years, but they already have a small base at blk. Do they really need another?

Just got my tickets from Olympic in the post this morning, flying HUY - HER in June. So the travel agent in Hull was incorrect!

Good to know the flights were full, but sadly time and time again load factors have proved meaningless
