Posting on PPRUNE saying Ryanair news conference in Alicante tomorrow. Could this be good news for HUY and some other routes??

Ryanair hold press conferences for service reductions when they fall out with airport operators so I wouldn't even assume FR are expanding at ALC

Can they cut back any more?

According to Spanish press there was a press conference at which Ryanair continued to blame AENA for the fall-off in visitor numbers to the area. The other interesing point is the final court ruling has yet to be delivered. Ryanair say if they loose they will cut further and if they win they will aim to re-instate routes that have been cut. The article says the Court will rule in 2 - 3 weeks. Sounds like it was a visit to rally support from hoteliers and other tourist organisations
This leaves things very late for summer season but if Ryanair are good at anything it's putting bums on airctaft seats.

Even if they do, I honestly dont see HUY being one of the routes to be re-instated. Particularly not at this late stage.

Further clarification on the commitment to resume if Ryanair get their way. He talked about resumption from next season i.e winter 2012/13. So if HUY was, and remains, a summer only route the best possible scenario is April 2013!! Plenty of pressure being applied for an agreement apparently - he's promised expansion if one is reached.

Well with MoL promising everything and Mr o Toole on the MAG board,I assume all the signs in the terminal are being removed for cleaning! Let's face it.Ryanair do not want to fly from HUY.Even if loads were 90% or more, they would find some excuse as not to fly from here.

I must admit I find it strange that after the supposed success of the ALC route, FR haven't evidently been interested in trying another Spanish route at least. ALC would have operated had their dispute with AENA been resolved, but with the number of based aircraft significantly cut there is not the capacity available to operate it. Also interesting is the move to drop all but one weekly flight from DSA only to re-introduce GRO when they agreed to expand back there again.
But either way, its not in the airline or airports best interest to keep adverts up for routes that do not operate, and I would think that their removal was at the end of an advertising agreement and nothing more should be read into it. It certainly doesnt mean FR will not return in the future.

FR have today announced three new routes from Groningen to start on May 2nd. Interestingly that airport is smaller than HUY, and currently has operational restrictions due to the runway length.
I take it they are focusing growth outside of the UK currently.

According to Alicante airport blog a final rulilng in the airbridge case has been delivered in favour of AENA. If true to their word, this means nil chance of Ryanair Humberside - Alicante returning this year. Can only hope they might look kindly on other routes.

Its far too late for anything this summer anyway. The best we could hope for is growth in S13 now.

Not directly relevent, but the load factor for April to ALC with Vueling was 48%! ALC-HUY in April last year was around 80%. I wonder if customer awareness is an issue at CWL, and if so would the likes of Vueling also struggle at HUY?

Like them or hate them, Ryanair have a very strong brand, and are very very well known - even among people that have never flown, where-as Vuelling are not. If you wanted a cheap flight to the south of Spain next month, would joe public search for Ryanair or vueling first?
