It seems ironical that if the Dutch government has environmental concerns about Schiphol, that they should be centred on noise at a time when new, much quieter, aircraft are being introduced and when there are so many other ecological matters to worry about.
Today, Saturday 25th June had, according to Flightradar24, 634 planned arrivals at Schiphol. KLM accounted for 323 of these, but they cancelled 21. Their associated company, Transavia, accounted for 47 arrivals. Assuming 634 departures, this amounts to an annual rate of 463,000 movements per annum.
The Dutch always appear very efficient with their aeronautical and marine transport hubs at Schiphol and Rotterdam, so it is surprising to see them threatening their businesses by imposing reductions before they have brought Lelystad Airport on stream as a major passenger facility.
If this reduction goes through, they will have to protect KLM because their hub operation is a major national asset. It would presumably be relatively easy to persuade Transavia to go to Lelystad in return for giving KLM a higher proportion of the available Schiphol slots. Presumably Lelystad will be a Stansted/Luton/Southend/Gatwick equivalent and they will need to persuade the likes of easyJet, Tui and Corendon to go there as well. If the Lelystad development is delayed might this traffic be encouraged to go to Rotterdam, which is not much further away.

www.iata.org/en/pressroom/2022-releases/2022-06-24-01/At the risk of being a doom monger once again, this really is not good news. Slot restrictions of up to 20% mean AMS/KLM will be forced to employ larger aircraft to make up for the shortfall in available slots. Sadly, this could bring the end of the E170/190 fleet and with it the well supported connections between Amsterdam and the U.K. regions.

The 20% number includes a previously planned but not yet implemented increase in slots. 12% is the reduction compared to the maximum permitted number of slots today - still not at all good for anyone wanting to fly to/via AMS, and I'd agree about the E175's future at KLM being questionable
There are five points I'd make though (maybe clutching at straws a bit?): -Yields may help some lower volume routes if they are high -There maybe potential to cut frequencies on some of the most frequent routes and use larger aircraft instead, which would somewhat protect smaller destinations -We don't know if AF/KLM will use CDG as part of their 'mitigation' strategy should this happen. If for example more Southern European transfer traffic got routed through CDG, that may help Northern European airports to retain their AMS links -If Lelystad opens, AF/KLM could transfer more than 12% of Transavia flights there, and use Transavia's spare AMS slots for KLM. Hypothetically say Transavia move 20% of flights to Lelystad, 60% of those transferred slots could be lost as part of the slot reductions, but 40% could be passed to KLM -KLM could surely cut AMS-BRU entirely and offer a rail alternative. 4 flights planned for Thursday 18th August according to Google. If that's the same every day of the year (probably isn't, but I don't want to over complicate), that's 8 slots a day (arrival+departure), 56 a week or 2912 a year - out of the potential 60,000 to be cut across all operators. Cut the obvious flights, remove any unused slots, and the 12% probably becomes a bit less than 12%

Firstly, Pug, don't look up 'KLM Flight Status' and worry when it says 'No flights available' on Sunday 29th October! They re-appear as three flights per day on Tuesday 8th November (with two on Saturdays) and are shown as bookable in the booking engine for the missing few days. The loads of the flights actually taking place have been very good in recent months and there has been an improvement in the number of cancellations. It would be interesting to know whether the yield has deteriorated, as pre-covid, HUY had a high proportion of business passengers. If the demand for business travel has held up, the winter season might be an appropriate time to restore the full timetable because there should be less pressure on Schiphol slots and a lower risk of non-weather-related cancellations.
