Upon quick glance, looks like the Thursday Bourgas flights with Balkan Holidays are no longer on sale for 2023.

Apparently staff at DSA have been told that the airport will ‘under no scenario’ be operating as an airport under Peel Group ownership after October 2022. With this in mind, and the uncertainty surrounding this for TUI (who could really do without this, particularly at the moment!), is there a chance now that HUY might benefit from an increase in offerings from them in the years to come? After all, HUY had a pretty solid offering from them before they shipped out to DSA, and there isn’t really the local competition without DSA that is seen at the likes of MME. Do wonder whether it will be on Eastern Groups radar at all..

We can but hope for something more if DSA closes.

Should we read anything into the fact that the HUY airport Twitter feed chose to retweet TUI call for 2023 cabin crew applications?? I guess both TUI and Wizz will be silent until then end of the consultation period in a couple of weeks but they will have a plan ready to action I'm sure.

I noticed it too, seems an odd thing to retweet - I’d love to think it’s for that huy based aircraft(s), but trying not to get my hopes up too much!

Who owns HUY now and do they have anyone working to attract new aviation business currently? I’m not sure much can be read into this. TUI have made it quite clear that they want to stay at DSA.

Think the Bristow Group is still the main shareholder with N Lincs Council retaining a minority share.
Bristow seem to have been happy to maintain the helicopter and core ABZ/AMS operations and not chase the budget airlines/charter operators. The DSA and Teesside financial losses in recent years would suggest that it isn’t a viable model. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if DSA is bailed out with public funds - and just like at Teesside, Peel will do very nicely at our expense.

I think DSA and MME aren’t really comparable now, as they’ve been established (re-established in the case of MME) to provide high volume low cost services, with all the associated overheads. Both have failed. DSA isn’t a viable proposition for public ownership, MME still needs to prove itself but it’s making proportionally smaller losses. When I look at successful regional airports, I would consider NWI, EXT and BOH to be doing reasonably well, and something for HUY to aspire to. It just depends on what the owners want. HUY would be a good investment opportunity for RCA/Rigby should DSA go to the wall, and should Bristow want to offload it.

HUY was not included when Bristow sold Eastern - so HUY has indirectly or directly been under Bristow control since 2014 when they bought 60% of Eastern

Thursday Balkan to Burgas back for next year after a couple of months absense. Now twice weekly as per the last 3 seasons. (Wonder if they've decided to reinstate in case DSAs Thursday flight ends with closure of the airport.)

(Wonder if they've decided to reinstate in case DSAs Thursday flight ends with closure of the airport.) Possibly hopeful of a resolution in the ongoing conflicts out that way. I suspect that and the fallout from Covid has deterred people from travelling to the slightly less conventional summer sun destinations this year. May well be that the flights don’t operate as planned if forward bookings are still a bit poor by then. Still awaiting news about DSA, and there are positive noises being made with regards to keeping the airport open, so may be waiting a while to see whether TUI spread their business around the other airports ahead of next summer. My guess is they’re hoping DSA remains open and haven’t really given much thought to it yet.

Not to jump on anyones grave, genuinely sorry for staff at DSA following the news today.
However, are we now likely to see a resurgence of this thread and the overall forum? I feel the risk to HUY from competition has just reduced significantly. Once again Humberside will be the closest airport for around 1.5 to 2 million people.
