Very interesting timings indeed, although I won't get my hopes up! My first thought was that the flights had been subcontracted out to BACF or Eastern, using their E-jet, however im not convinced this is the case (Although Im sure either operators E-Jet could do the Alicante in the morning, then Jersey in the afternoon) - Eastern and Flybe are essentially rival operators, I just can't see it. What I feel is mostly likely, is either its an error, or a Flybe aircraft is going to position over from DSA to operate the flights.

The Scotsman newspaper reporting that Flybe have agreed slots at LHR to start in March. Only mention of two airports in Scotland. This proposal was first muted early last year and the aborted due to landing costs. Looks like it's been revived, maybe with the LHR route development incentive? Whilst it does not mean HUY-LRH is immediately on the cards it does look like the plan to increase regional connectivity with LHR is underway.

This is a BIG if, but IF this is true, it could tie in with a HUY based E175/Q400 for an LHR route and a SAT PM HUY based JER flight. Flight time from HUY is 1h15 down to JER and 1h30 back, which in itself is odd. Pure speculation here, but how amazing would that be!
Kind regards

Jersey is down as being operated by Q400 when I tried a dummy booking a few days ago.
Do we think there is enough demand for a LHR link, at say twice daily? Or will it just move traffic from AMS? Point to point traffic will be limited I imagine - The direct train takes around 2 1/2 hours down to London from Hull, and from Doncaster it can be as little as 90 minutes. Flying would probably be an hour - but then its best part of an hour on the tube into central London from LHR.

The short answer is that point-to-point traffic might be about 40% but that the remaining 60% would take traffic from the AMS route.
An analysis of British Airways domestic traffic is available for the period Jan/Dec 2014. Connecting passenger percentages were as follows :- MAN 60.8% LBA 56.0% NCL 51.2% ABZ 38.6% GLA 36.2% EDI 33.2% BHD25.8%. Flybe might be lower as their route would be more profitable with point-to point (as with AirUK, who only operated to Guernsey from LHR to connect with HUY/NWI).
AirUK operated HUY/LHR until 1990. Their traffic figures from HUY were as follows:-
1989 LHR 19,865 AMS 29,125 1990 LHR 24,378 AMS 30,029 1991 LHR 0 AMS 37,809 1992 LHR. 201 AMS 49,888 The service to Heathrow ended in 1990 because, although the route was profitable, the Shorts 360 was priced out of LHR by a sharp increase in landing fees. It enabled AirUK to sell their Humberside and Guernsey slots for a good price.
AirUK had already dropped Norwich in 1990. The HUY figure of 24,378 is made up of 3 months shared with Norwich (1 hour 45 minutes) , 7 months of direct service (1 hour 10 minutes) and two months void as the route ended at the end of October. If the service had operated direct for a full year, there would have been about 34,000 passengers.
This suggests that the notional increase in numbers from 20,000 to 34,000 may have been mainly point-to-point. Heathrow is very convenient for places such as Reading and Slough (where Reckitt Benckiser now have their head office).

Flybe have confirmed that they intend to start Heathrow services from Aberdeen and Edinburgh. The flights will arrive at Terminal 2 and will face competition from British Airways. The flights will be operated by turbo-prop equipment. Flybe have also appointed Mrs. Christine Ourmieres-Widener as chief executive. She has an Air France background and is the former chief executive of CityJet.

New times on the web now for the Jersey flight. Looks like the flight times had been entered the wrong way round and it's a Jersey based aircraft after all.

As expected the Eastern Aberdeen flights are being sold under Flybe brand from winter season onwards. They are now available on Flybe site. I haven't looked at prices in detail but quick glance shows start and end of week continue to be expensive but mid week looking less so. Don't know if this is a change.

Prices have certainly fallen. Looking 6 weeks ahead, I can get a return flight for less than £160, which historically would have been more like the fare each way. Its also interesting that there are 3 levels of fare on all flights, compared to the "all in" options eastern offered. Not sure if the free drink is still provided?
Hopefully the flights might be more attractive to non-business travellers, now that the fares seem to be more on the low cost model than full service airline.

Jersey 2019 from Humberside on sale on the Airways website 11 May 2019 to 31 August but showing as a Logan Air flight. Times show it will originate from Jersey 12.35. Much better times than this year but a shorter season. Flight not yet showing Flybe or Logan Air sites.

Looking increasingly like Flybe might have axed Humberside Jersey for 2019 and Loganair have taken it up as one of their scheduled routes. Too early to be sure but MME to Jersey 2019 is loaded on the Flybe site and Humberside is not. A case of wait and see for a few days.
